We hold beginner workshops about twice a year. The workshops are held in English or German, depending on the registrations, and will be led by three of our rope rebels teachers.
In this beginner’s workshop you will learn the foundations of Shibari, a traditional Japanese form of rope bondage. We teach you the basic knots and frictions, give you a small repertoire of different harnesses, and also show you how to tie them to create emotionally charged experiences.
For this workshop, you need to come with a tying partner. Switching is possible if you both want to tie.
You will get familiar with the history of shibari, taking care of your rope, consent and negotiation in shibari, and how to tie safely, avoiding discomfort and potential injury.
We will teach you the basic techniques used in shibari: The single and double column tie, the most important frictions, holding tension, handling rope efficiently, moving your partner while you tie, and how you can use these simple components to create a great session.
Once fundamental concepts are clear, we will move on to more advanced topics, showing a selection of classic shibari patterns to build your repertoire.
We emphasise a relaxed atmosphere without competition, pressure, or discrimination. In the rope, we are all equal.

The most important thing is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable. Athletic wear or other styles of clothing that don’t restrict movement are often ideal for tying and being tied in, while clothing that restricts movement, like corsets with boning or even tight jeans, can make doing rope more challenging.
Please note that cancellations are not permitted. However, if you or your partner cannot attend the workshop, you are welcome to transfer your spot to someone else. In this case, please email us so we can update the details accordingly.
In exceptional cases (e.g., documented illness), we encourage you to reach out to us, and we will do our best to find a fair solution.
Additionally, please keep the following points in mind:
Transfer of Participation:
If you cannot attend, you may transfer your spot to another person. Please inform us at least 2 days before the workshop to arrange the details.
Exceptional Circumstances:
In the case of unforeseen events (e.g., illness with a medical certificate), we will work with you to find an alternative, such as participation in a future workshop or another solution.
